I am a freelance journalist specialising in biosciences, medicine and health policy.
I have a BSc in Biomedical Sciences and an MA in Journalism Studies, both from the University of Sheffield.
I was a health reporter at BBC News online for five years covering everything from NHS finances to medical uses of nanotechnology.
You may have read my work in The Lancet, Pulse, BMJ, Nursing Times, European Heart Journal, Chemist and Druggist, OTC, Pregnancy and Birth magazine to name but a few.

Since training as a manuscript editor at The Lancet Oncology, I have extensive sub-editing experience across journals, magazines, online and have fine-tuned academic papers prior to submission.
These days I also spend quite a bit of time teaching and work as an associate lecturer in journalism at the University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University.
Morning Emma
Just read your report “Profile: Montreal Cardiology Institute, Canada” in the September 2012 Edition of the European Heart Journal.
I wanted to instroduce myself, as the Senior Manager of Public Affairs for the Ottawa heart Institute (UOHI), Canada’s leading cardiovascular health centre.
I also wanted to let you know, as part of your reporter duties, that UOHI does amazing research and has quite impressive programs that are now being used throughout Canada that you might (ultimately) be interested in! I’ll make sure to keep you posted as we announce research breakthrough, launch new innovative programs, etc.
You must be very busy
But If you are interested and curious about the work that we do, just let me know and I’ll be happy to discuss
Very nice to “virtually” meet you
